Okawara was founded over 80 years ago in Shizuoka, one of the prime tea producing regions in Japan. The company started out supplying equipment used in tea processing such as withering rack dryers, final tea rolling machines and fermenting machines, and has since diversified. Today our products are used in a wide range of processes that feature drying technology, such as enrichment, sterilization, granulation, and incineration. The fields of industry we supply range from manufacturing (including food and drink products, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and production materials) to environmental solutions such as sludge drying, waste fluid enrichment and recycling.
Okawara is constantly striving to improve and refine the “quality, safety and environmental technologies” set out in our corporate philosophy, each of which is vital to modern manufacturing. At the same time, today’s global community is based on advanced information and communication technology, with the result that specialized technology and knowledge in all fields are becoming universalized. Consequently, it is becoming harder to achieve differentiation competing globally in the field of technology development.
At Okawara, we are developing business through tie-ups and collaborations with local partners in a range of overseas markets using Japan as our base, from where we can put our expertise and experience to work in a variety of areas.
Local partners are familiar with local conditions, and by working closely with them we can provide our customers with the highest levels of assurance and reliability. We are also able to adopt a more flexible approach to design and development better able to adapt to the changing needs of different markets.
Okawara has always been committed to ongoing product improvement and enhancement to meet the needs of the marketplace. Often this involves making a full prototype before moving onto design and manufacture of the actual product. This approach has generated for us a wealth of experience and a technology base by which we cater to an increasingly diverse and complex range of market demands.
From a purely global perspective, it may seem more efficient to supply general-purpose products made to a single standard set of specifications. But our customers use our products in different ways and therefore have differing requirements. In Europe, for instance, environmental considerations assume higher priority and our products are expected to incorporate the latest technology. Other territories have high demand for large-scale systems with the focus on mass production, while yet others require a broader range of high quality products produced in smaller lots.
